This course is ideally suited for toddlers and tiny tots between the age group of 5 to 7 years. Just like how a kindergartener is taught fun rhymes and then the actual alphabet, we teach little ones simple and easy-to-sing bhajans and peppy songs before moving onto core Carnatic music concepts like Varisais.
What will you learn?
Swaras are the backbone of Carnatic music. Varisais are the basic exercises crafted specifically to perfect the swara positions or Swarasthanas. This course deals with the basic varisais viz Sarali Varisais (single swaras) , Janta Varisais (double swaras) , Thaatu Varisais (zig-zag patterns) , Upper Sthaayi Varisais (high pitch patterns) , Mandra Sthaayi Varisais (low pitch patterns) , Alankarams (thalam varieties).
What will you learn?
Geethams are the first lyrical compositions which are introduced to a Carnatic Music student. In this course , a variety of geethams ranging from basic ragas like Malahari , Mohanam , Suddha Saveri to advanced ragas like Kalyani, Khamboji etc will be taught . Jatiswarams are simple melodic swara based patterns which help a student gain proficiency in a particular raga. Apart from this , the basic varisais will also be taught in the Melakartha ragas Shankarabharanam and Kharaharapriya.
What will you learn?
This course brings you to the intermediate level of your Carnatic Music journey. Varnams help a student to get acquainted with the different shades of a raga and the actual singing of Carnatic music compositions , i.e. Kritis begins at this level. The Gamakas and aesthetics of each raga will be explored in detail in Varnams and the same will be applied to the Kriti taught in the same or allied raga. Apart from these , other simpler musical types like Swarajathis and Nottuswaras will also be taught here.
This course delves further into Varnams in Basic Melakartha Ragas like Shankarabharanam , Kalyani , Mayamalavagoula etc and Vakra ragas like Darbar , Saranga etc. This is ideal for intermediate level students of Carnatic Music who are already familiar with basic raga varnams (i,e Mohanam , Hamsadhwani , Abogi etc). Apart from this , a lot of splendid compositions by the Trinities , Swathi Tirunal , Papanasam Sivan etc will also be taught.
This course deals with Varnams and Kritis in Ragas like Todi , Madhamavathi , Shanmugapriya , Saveri etc and Vakra ragas like Sri , Kanada , Reethigowla etc. Apart from this, Ata thala varnams and complex kritis in Vilamba Kalam , Pancharatna Kritis will also be taught. This is an ideal choice for advanced level students . As a prerequisite, students should have learnt varnams and Kritis in the ragas prescribed in the previous levels.
Sruthi is termed as ‘Maatha’ or mother of Indian music. Having perfect sruthi alignment is imperative in any kind of music. This course is specially designed for students belonging to all levels viz – beginner , intermediate and advanced . It covers an exhaustive list of exercises and challenges , which when practiced thoroughly , will help a student navigate through the octave easily. Any student willing to improve their sense of sruthi is eligible to enroll in this course.
Sruthi and Thala are known as the Mother and Father respectively of Carnatic Music. This course brings to you a series of explanatory videos on these two very important topics in Carnatic Music. Any student of Carnatic Music must have a perfect understanding of these two concepts before starting with the basic Varisais. Sarali Varisais are the first basic lessons introduced to a student of Carnatic Music. There are basic single swara patterns which will help a student gain mastery over the different swarasthanas. All the videos provided in this course are self-explanatory and at the end of the course, the student should be able to sing all the swarasthanas of Mayamalavagoula accurately.
